What are executive functions?

Executive function coaching focuses on the mental skills people use to get things done and steer toward their goals. Meghan Michalski builds these skills with her clients, one at a time:

  • Planning
  • Prioritizing
  • Communication
  • Thought organization
  • Cognitive flexibility
  • Time management
  • Staying steady under stress

These skills support daily success. Meghan is a coach and mentor, and you can meet Meghan to learn about her background and approach.

How does executive function coaching work?

Meghan starts with trust and rapport, and with learning how the client thinks, plans, and takes in information. She then teaches concepts and organizational strategies adapted to the way that person perceives and understands things, so the tools fit the person.

Clients first use new strategies with support. Over time, Meghan works so that the client can use them independently. Along the way she aims to support confidence, skills and knowledge of why the strategies matter for performance.

Her toolkit includes:

  • Evidence-informed attention-training techniques that aim to support awareness and concentration.
  • Mindfulness practices, including meditation techniques, which aim to support self-awareness and concentration.
  • A writing and creative-process method that aims to support confidence alongside executive function skills.

What does working together look like?

Coaching with Meghan is an ongoing, long-term relationship that meets at a regular cadence. It is not a fixed-length program. Sessions are one-to-one and offered both virtually and in person. See where Meghan works for details.

How does coaching fit with therapy and medical care?

Alongside, not instead of, clinical care

Meghan works alongside the client’s psychiatrist, psychologist and family as one part of their support team. Clinicians can read how Meghan works alongside your clinicians.

Questions

Common questions about coaching

How is coaching different from therapy?

Coaching focuses on executive function skills such as planning, routines and follow-through, and Meghan works alongside the people providing clinical care.

Is this only for ADHD?

No. Executive function challenges show up for many people, for many different reasons. Meghan works on the skills themselves, alongside whatever other support a client already has.

Is coaching online or in person?

Both, one-to-one. See where Meghan works for details.

How long do people work with Meghan?

There is no set number of sessions. People stay for as long as the work is useful to them, and the cadence is agreed with each client.

Do you work with my therapist or psychiatrist?

Yes. Meghan works alongside a client’s existing clinicians as one part of their support team, and shares information with them only with the client’s written permission, except where required by law. If you would like to talk about how that could work for you, get in touch.
